Senior Adult Ministry

Spiritual Growth
Our ministry centers around our Sunday morning Bible study groups. We have several classes, covering all ages of anyone who might consider themselves a senior adult. These classes are on Sunday mornings, of course.

From time to time we will have a special Bible study for seniors. We also are connected with the opportunities for growth through the Columbia Baptist Association.

Getting to Church - As a senior adult, you might need help in getting to Bible study and worship on Sunday.  If you need a ride to church, our bus picks up        several senior adults now. Give us a call.

Service

Spiritual growth finds its outlet in serving others. Senior adults at FBC have been serving for years in various areas of teaching, committees, deacons, choirs, etc.

We try to provide opportunities for serving in the retirement years. Many of our senior adults help in our Community Ministries, especially in food pantry, clothes closet, and tutoring. Community Ministries is a prime opportunity for serving. Click here to the community ministry page.

There are other opportunities throughout the year, such as helping mission teams prepare for trips to Guatemala by counting medicine, vitamins and such and assembling supplies for mission teams, etc. Many ladies participate in Women on Missions, who have their own service projects during the year. Senior adult men volunteer to help with small repairs for folks when needed.

We have some senior adults who regularly participate in mission trips to Guatemala and Operation Christmas Child. We have had Senior Adult Mission Trips to Jamaica and New Orleans, Chicago and multiple time to Kentucky. You have never reached that age where you are too old to serve Jesus in missions.

In addition, many of our Sunday Morning Senior Adult Bible Study groups (Sunday School) have taken on specific service projects during the year.

If God leads you to join us at FBC, then you will have ample opportunity for serving!

Fellowship

“A new command I give you: Love one another as I have loved you……..By this shall all men know that you are my disciples: that you love one another.”

Since Jesus wants us to love one another, there is no better way than to spend time together.

Young at Heart

The FBC Senior Adults get together for lunch every month, usually the third Tuesday of each month, September-May. Our entertainment/programs are not always of a “religious/spiritual” nature but may be musicical or local happenings/comedy. It is great fun to be together and, of course, the food is always great.

We know that some senior adults can’t drive themselves out of town anymore, so from time to time we take off in our “luxurious” church bus to go out to eat together or visit places of interest. There and back again the same day. We also plan some overnight trips and, on occasion, longer trips.

...A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another....

Homebound Ministry
One area of service for our entire church is visiting our church members who are homebound. Many of these members were very active in FBC until their health no longer allowed it.

Our Senior Adult Coordinator, Judy Wise, helps match homebound visitors with our homebound members. If you would be willing to visit and stay in touch with one or more FBC homebound members, then please call Judy at 334-685-0121 or email her at jw4cody@aol.com.

Bereavement Ministry
FBC has a Bereavement Ministry that's led by our Bereavement Committee. When there is a death in our church family, we call on our church members to help provide food during this time.

If you are interested in helping with this ministry, contact Bob Gross at bobgross@fbcdothan.org. He will forward your name to the Bereavement Committee.
